The Spiritual Validity of Holding On
A popular message in spiritual circles is to the message to surrender and let go in order to transcend the ego. This approach, rooted in many spiritual traditions, suggests that relinquishing attachments, desires, and the control of the ego is essential for achieving higher states of consciousness and inner peace. While surrendering holds profound wisdom, the act of holding on can also possess significant spiritual validity.
The ego, often depicted as the source of our illusions and suffering, plays a dual role. It can indeed cloud our perception and anchor us to material and transient aspects of life. However, it also serves as a vital component of our individuality, providing a sense of self and personal identity necessary for navigating the physical world. Rather than viewing the ego solely as an adversary to be vanquished, embracing its role as part of our human experience allows for a more integrated approach to spiritual growth.
In a world that often feels chaotic and uncertain, holding on to core values and principles provides stability and direction. These values act as a moral compass, guiding actions and decisions. Whether it's love, compassion, integrity, or resilience, holding on to these principles helps anchor individuals in their spiritual journey, offering a sense of purpose and grounding amidst life's challenges.
The act of holding on can also be a testament to resilience and inner strength. Life’s adversities, such as loss, failure, and hardship, often test our spirit. Holding on during these times signifies a refusal to succumb to despair. It embodies the courage to face difficulties head-on and the determination to emerge stronger. This resilience fosters personal growth, deepening one's spiritual insight and fortitude.
The spiritual path is not a binary choice between surrendering and holding on but a dynamic interplay between the two. Surrendering allows individuals to release control over that which they cannot change, fostering acceptance and peace. Conversely, holding on encourages perseverance in the face of trials, commitment to personal values, and the pursuit of goals. This balance cultivates a harmonious spiritual practice where surrendering and holding on complement each other.
Holding on to personal responsibility is crucial for spiritual empowerment. It involves acknowledging one’s role in creating and shaping life experiences. By holding on to this sense of agency, individuals can actively engage in their spiritual evolution, making conscious choices that align with their higher self. This empowerment fosters self-awareness, accountability, and intentionality in one's actions and decisions.
While the widespread message of surrendering to transcend the ego holds invaluable lessons in humility, acceptance, and peace, the spiritual validity of holding on should not be overlooked nor under-estimated!
My message to you is: hold on as hard and as long as you can or will. It is not a wrong spiritual path, it is a different spiritual path. Follow it, it is your superpower! Your ability to persevere because some matters are of existential importance to you is of a very high spiritual nature. Anybody who is at the brink of suicide would appreciate a slice of that energy of holding on. Don't waste it, teach it to others. You may find that this does not suit the environment, circumstance, or problem you are confronted with. You may find that allowing yourself to soften and open up a little could allow for matters to change and evolve, but that really is a different discussion! Ideally, you could take your superpower to find the circumstances and situations where you could use this energy of your soul to effect positive change. Where this is not possible, come to understand the importance of the value, pain, memory, or situation you are holding on to, and ask yourself a simple question: "Why is it good for a part of me to hold onto this?"
How about embracing and holding on to the understanding that you are never broken, no matter what teachings or knowledge matrices are being pushed into this world!
